I wanted to get your opinion. You have just moved here from the eastern half of the country or maybe from the â€˜The Cityâ€™ (SanFrancisco) or Los Angeles. When you moved in it was spring and there was a beautiful tree with lush green leaves and even fragrant white flowers. It looked like this.
Now its summer and fall and it looks like this. You soon find out that itâ€™s supposed to look like this during the summer and fall. Its not dead!
The hills are full of these trees. Itâ€™s California Buckeye (Aesculus californiaca). Itâ€™s a main component of the chaparral in these parts. During the summer it goes dormant with the dead leaves hanging on the tree for a couple of months. Itâ€™s not endangered yet, because its so prevalent. These people have left in their yard. Would you?
